I would have to say that every pair of clowns I have had take about 8 months from the time I put them together to the first clutch of eggs being laid. It has occurred much earlier for me however. The fish do require some sort of structure to feel at home. Rock work is good. A 4" terra cotta pot surrounded by rock has worked very well for me. I think they like the feeling of the pot to lay eggs on. Heavy target feeding helps with the brood stock as well. Good luck with "S" type rotifers.
