Hello to all--i recently sarted this idea that i would like to frag some zooanthid polyps-for the local marine aquarists- so what i did is took a little piece of metal and pulled the polyp from the rock-than found a smaller rock about the size of a qauter(juss to learn with)and took a needle and put it throught the foot of the coral. Is there anything that i should do different or am i doing it completely wrong?Help please!

If you have any super glue gel around the house (it has to be the gel variety) you can put a dab of glue on the base of the polyp and press the polyp onto the rock. Just don't press too hard or the polyp will expell its zooxanthelle. Also, it's best to wear some latex or rubber gloves when working with zoos because they release a pretty potent toxin. Wash your hands and the tools you used thoroughly!!

When i pulled off he polyp a redish brown juice came out of the bottom-what is that :?: what kind of glue would you suggest and is it safe for my tank?

Check this thread it's a very good step x step guide. Just add gloves and safety glasses for precaution.

That is so much help-so the stuff that comes out is poison-do you think it hurt the polyp when i put the needle in the foot?

Can't really say for sure since I've never speared a zoo before. Squished them a time or two, but never poked one with a needle. Explleling it's zoox isn't a good thing - stressful to the coral, but usually they bounce right back. Zoos are pretty forgiving. How many polyps did you pull off and did you just rip it off the rock or did you gently pry under the mat and peel the mat off?

I pulled off a single one--it was the only one on the section but there are aound 45 other polyps on the rock-but only one-and yea i pried into the rock so it didnt rip or anything-iv heard of people using toothpics. the same way i used the needle but i didnt hear the out come of it

Let us know how it does.
Oh - and to answer your glue question...Loctite and Duro both make a decent glue gel. Look for cyanoacrylate as the main ingredient.
