I noticed over the past two weeks that there appears to be some kind of purple algae growing on my sand bed and a little on the sides of the tank glass. I don't have any pics just yet. Any Ideas as to what it might be?

My guess would be an outbreak of cyanobacteria if it's kind of slimey looking.

I would have to agree also. How old is your setup?
If I were the betting kinda guy thats where all my chips would be too, Cyno-bacteria. You can do a search here on the forum and find a wealth of threads on this wonderful topic, causes and solutions!

GEEZ THANKS!!!
Ok I thought that might be what it is. This tank is about 6 months old. I actually had a a couple things go wrong for me over the past two weeks. My CPR-bakpak wasn't working correctly, one of the powerheads died and I wasn't aware for a few days. I usually check it everyday but I was busy. Anyway, I lost my Naso Tang and my coral beauty angel within 3 days. The tank is a FOWLR. Honestly I think there was something wrong with the Naso, he only lived about two weeks tops. Then my coral died and my Scopas was not doing well at all, luckily I saved the Scopas and he is looking good now. I'll do the research on the cyno so I can get it taken care of before it gets too bad.
