I had a Bali Sinularia that was outgrowing its rock. I decided I needed to punish it. I won't be having such ambition in my tank! After making the decision to frag it, I had to face the problem of what to do with the pieces. I just don't have any extra live rock to be breaking apart now, so I had to look elsewhere. I remembered seeing "reef plugs" on GARF.org. Then, I remembered that Imaexpat peruses GARF.org. Then, I remembered seeing Imaexpat post that he makes DIY live rock. Then, smoke still drifting from my ears from all this remembering, I sat down and PM'd Imaexpat to see if he makes reef plugs. Lo and Behold! He does! A little wheelin' and dealin' (not really) and they're in the mail to me.

Needless to say, I am very impressed with these reef plugs. He sent me some newer ones and some older ones that were pretty encrusted with coralline. I fragged the Sinularia with varying results, but this is mostly because I decided to rescape my rocks and in the process I blasted some fresh frags with a power head. Some blew away!

Here are pictures of what fragging I've been up to lately.

There are a few more not-so-happy Sinu's on the end that don't deserve a closeup until they're happier. Why am I showing you this? Because I like my little frag choo choo across the front of my tank? No. (Well, yes.) I'm showing these very nice reef plugs that I got from Imaexpat.

Thanks so much Imaexpat! (I told you I would plug for you shamelessly!)

That is great. I made my reef plugs in a small ice cube tray that way I can then glue them (w/epoxy) to my LR when they get up and going.
Conni, now you have time to make some of your own prior to more fragging! Unless you have put down the no new growth law. By the way that law seems to be in strict enforcement in my tank.

Excellent job Conni. Since that poor wee guy on the right looks so unhappy, I suggest you send it to me and I will give it a nice home. ;)

i think the irregular shapes of his plugs make them look more natural, good job on the fragging Conni

SM,

You just nurture those blue zoos of yours, and you can have all the leathers you want come springtime. Maybe my green polyped toadie will be ready by then too!

Expat also uses these plugs to replace bioballs in wet/dry filters. They're the perfect size for that.
