Cool. I just got a pair of black clowns. I got them from a guy I met at the LFS he said that they had layed about 10 times but that he could never keep the fry alive. Said that he had never heard of rotifer's
I posted som pics of them in the member photos forum.

good luck this time around!

People pay 50-75 for a common perc around here and upwards of that for a
solid black one

well sorry I haven't been up much on the clowns but I've been working like mad christmas is coming soon and I need to get my families and friends gift shopping done ,and I'm trying to come up with enough to get my 20 gal and 40 breeder up and running, I need about 6 more items to get them going. and by the way, I was mis informed on my black clowns there not fish there rabbit's, there getting another spot ready. and I see the females huge again
right now I'm working on trying to get rid of my 2 clown gobies and my other breeding pair of orange perc's. and tearing down my 10 gal nano to add to my 20 gal, hatchery.

Have they hatched out yet?? Any survivors??

icereefer
11-25-2004, 12:47 PM
know sad to say. they have been hatching, but the parents sit by and get them as they hatch. I'm having a problem getting rid of my 10 gal. I have a lot of people that want it but with the holidays I'm at a stand still here. I have every thing to set my hatchery up. I just need the room where my ten gal is sitting, :censored:
I just can't believe the way they have been laying lately. four or five days after the fry are gone they lay again. like I don't feed them enough.
once I can get my ducks in a row, I'm hoping by spring I should have, a good little stock of baby black clownfish,,,,, fingers crossed .

I was told that the percs will hatch about one hour after lights go out. Is this true for yours as well. I was talking to the guy I got mine from and he says he waits tell an hour after dark, uses a pen light on the surface and the fry swim to the light and he uses a fine mesh net and moves them to his 10 gl hatchery.

Please tell us your experience with the process.

hummm?? sad news. I guess you might have to create some sort of trap to hold the parents back long enough to retrieve them. what if you were to remove them and place them in sort of a modded HOB refugium. Like the CPR's. long enough to get the fry out. but i guess the question is what do you do with them then eh? i hear you about the room. I'm sitting at my kitchen/computer desk/catch all table.

ya they do hatch after the lights go out most of the time but I have had mine hatch just before lights go out to. my problem is the guy that had them before me usally did'nt try to raise the fry. and mine know right when there hatching and get them as they hatch this is why I need to put the eggs in there own tank.
as for a 10 gal for a hatchery that's kind of small unless his catch rate is very low.on the frys.

Time the hatch to the night, remove the eggs and hatch them in another tank. I think its eight days but it may vary

Yeah mine usually start laying about 1 1/2 before the Lights go out,
and mine took 7 days to hatch this time around, it all depends on the temp you keep them at for the time frame on the hatch.

Never paid attention to temp, always at or near 78-79. We lost a cpl hatches, but thats ok , theres so many to care for already. And the rotifer hatch and phyto hasn't been cycling as planned.

A quote out of Joyce D Wilkerson Book.
The interval between eggs laying and hatching varies with temperature. eight days is the normal incubation period at 80 degrees .but at higher or lower temeratures, the eggs need either more or less time at 76 degrees, eggsa can incubate for 11 days; only 6 days may be needed at 84 degrees if the temperature is not altered, each hath's incubation period will be the same.
