my chateo isnt growing nor is it dying any more. I took out all the calupera except on or two very small (only 2 blades) pieces. the cheato just doesnt seem to grow. Im using a clamp on compact flourescent bulbs. (came with my mini betta setup) i bielive is a 7200K bulb. I use Res Sea Ca+ 3 in my tank. any advice?
I have found that cheto is a very slow grower if you are use to calurpa like myself who harvest it weekly. What is the cheato in and how many watts is the bulb any ideas?

I'm running a 18 watt 7200k on my refuge, and I have chaeto and racemosa and I have to prune mine once a week, mine took about a month ,,,not much growth.. then after that it took off . I run my light 24/7 too. and my refuge is only 12" deep. and I feed my refuge. my chaeto grows faster then any thing in my tank since I went 24/7.

what do you feed it? I really dont feed my tank or corals. Once a wk I add frozen brine and some tropical flakes to keep my ghost shrimp alive.

I also use cheato (brillo) algea and nothing else and mine took a little longer than a month to really get going. I found what works well for me is to let it grow nice and large (larger the better) and sqeeze a hand full off each week. ( make shure to shake out all those pods). I also light 24/7 with 2 150 pc screw in flood lamps from Home depot. also if your nitrates and such are low already, your plants wont have anything to feed on.
