Hey
I am looking for a good camera to take pics with for my aquarium. I don't have a ton to spend. What do you guys recommend?

I have a Kokak Easyshare 3.2 MP, and I do not recommend it!

why do you say thaT?

It's fine for vacation or family shots, but if you want to focus on something closer than a couple of feet, it's not possible. There are no macro capabilities. So, not good for aquaria at all!

what $$ range are you looking at (not nibbing :) )

there are a lot of good cams out there and depending on what you are planing to do with it, is it going to be an all around cam or will you mainly be using it more for tank shots, etc

here is a link to something from another site that Travis wrote up and i think it will help you here

IMO best site to research cameras on is http://dpreview.com/ I love my Canon G5 but a bit on the pricier side for what you want I think

I must be losing my mind! I think my post disappeared, or I forgot to hit Submit!

Zack: What camera did you choose and do you like it?

SM: I know you just posted this somewhere, but I can't find it: What camera do you use, and do you like it?

Anybody who wants to jump in with more recommendations: Please do! I'm trying to decide what to put on my Christmas wish list, and I'm lost in my research of a camera with good macros and still has point and shoot capabilities for vacation type shots.

Thanks!

It's an Olympus Stylus 300 Digital. 3.2 megapixel with macro capabilities.

How funny! I've pretty much decided on either the Olympus Stylus 400 or the C-60. The latter is quite a bit higher in price and function, so I think I'll just give him the model numbers and let him decide. That is, IF I get a camera at all!

Fuji FinePix 2650 Review (http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/fuji-finepix-2650-reviews.html) I have an old 3800 which I love, the next closest model is the 5000 now. The optical zoom is just awesome at 10x. Just remember Zack that digital zoom is worthless, shoot for the optical as the buying point.

Cich,

I have decided to get pushy with presents. Last year, I got a very nice, expensive handgun for Christmas. (I haven't even held it in my hands, though it has been shot several times.) On my birthday, I got a BOX of wine. And it was only by chance that he felt like drinking burgandy, because he totally forgot what day it was! This year, I am giving him three choices as to what he can get. If he forgets, or gets me something that HE really wants, I may just try out that handgun after all!

I would take the cash! It just better not be a tablesaw! In all honesty, I think that in his mind, the handgun was an excuse for us to spend time together without the kids around. It's just that there are so many other reasons to get a sitter besides target practice!

If you wanna take really good pix on the cheap, buy a used film SLR and have CDs made when you develop the film. If you think it's too expensive to feed, ask your digital friends how much they spend on batteries!

Not very much on batteries. I bought a set of good rechargables.

Now for the Canon 35m rebl the wife has, she's always complaining the the little battery in hers has gone out, we've never been able to fine rechargables to fit it.

I keep two batteries for mine, that way when one dies, I can pop a fully charged one in the camera and plug the other one up to charge it.

Nikon 8700 :D . Best buy is doing rebates right now. its $999 but you can get it for $799. I did not see what price range you were looking at. I wanted the D100 but could not spend almost 2grand on a camera.....
