View Full Version : new to the forum, showing off my 10 gallon nano
i just wanted to say hi, and that i love the forum :) i have had my nano set up since june. as of right now, i have about 10 pounds of liverock, 20 pounds of live sand, 2 tiny maroon clowns(will go in my 75 when the get a little bigger) some mushrooms, star polyps, button polyps hmm and i think thats it. it a 10 gallon tank, with a modified ac500 which has about an inch of sand in the bottom, and two small peices of lr. this will be my fuge when i can get some plant life. i have a 50 watt heater, and coral life 96watt compact. hmm i think thats everything :) im curious as to what you guys would suggest i do for maintanence. should i be putting in kalk or anything? this is my first crack at corals so speak in small terms :) i use distilled or filtered water at the moment. i will be getting an RO unit shortly, if i can find a good cheap one.

nice tank caz welcome to coralforum, regular water changes should everything ok, i wouldn't add any supplements unless your testing for them but with just a few shrooms and polyps in there your calcium demands arn't going to be very high

:welcome2:
Caz, not bad homie :) Like the tank.
Those mushrooms are ready to cut :) cut the heads off and throw them where the water current isn't high, on some liverock rubble...let the head re attach, and now you have two shrooms ;)

How are you supplementing the tank?
What kind of salt are you using?

Welcome to the forum. Nice tank Sometimes I think that the little nanos are more interesting than the huge ones.
thanx guys. i am not supplimenting anything. infact i know very little about it. most of the shrooms came with the live rock that i purchased. i am open to any suggestions that you guys may have. as of right now, i think my next purchase will be an ro unit. can i get away with a cheap one for around 100 bucks? i have no clean up crew yet. cant seem to get in any at the lfs.
the pick of the tank was the first day that i got my 96 watt coralife light. the shrooms do not get as big anymore. i may move some up to my 75 gal. what do you use to cut them? how close to the head do i cut it? half way up the stem? can they touch the air? thanx guys.
oh yeah, salt mix i use red sea salt mix. i think im up for a change though. .. suggestions?

You can find good RO/DI units on eBay for around that price with shipping.
When you change salt mixes, do it gradually by adding a little more of the new salt with the old salt each time you do a water change until you eventually have only the new kind.
