FWIW, here is the collection of implements that have served me the best for fragging

http://www.rusynyk.com/coral/fragdemo1.JPG

scissors for cutting softies like leathers or topping Xenias, mushrooms etc

large diagonal cutters for fragging tough stony corals and for "munching" through LR to get under mats of things like zoos. encrusting gorgs, GSP etc

stainless paring knife for grinding under individual polyps or small pieces of whatever

hemostats for fragging delicate stonys like Montiporas

razor blade for cutting through mats and starting the edges of stuff growing on smooth surfaces like glass/plastic

superglue gel and kneadable 2-part epoxy for gluing chores

i've also used the dremel moto-tool with a cutoff wheel on fragile skeletoned LPS like frogspawns and Caulastrea
And pulled out the hammer and chisel to frag a large Turbinaria and a large table Acro which I couldn't get the "munchers" onto.

Thanks for posting this. I saw your post at RC yesterday and found it to be most helpful! You oughta post the whole fragging sequence here too.

OK thanks, I was kind of thinking that was too specific, but if you think it will help someone I'll put it up. The pics are already on my server, so it won't waste any more bandwidth that's for sure.

I was looking through my pics. I have a Hydnophora frag sequence I will post first, then I'll put the "munch" sequence up

If you don't mind, I am going to make this a sticky as the info above is great and sounds like more info is on its way :)

no, I'm flattered

I should mention just a couple other things that I've learned to do over time. And I ALWAYS do these things.

I have a sink right next to my frag cutting board with which I thoroughly rinse all tools before and after doing any fragging

I also rinse my hands thoroughly before and after doing any fragging and I don't cut corals if I have any cuts on my hands. Obviously no touching your eyes, glasses, coffee cup, beer, rubbing nose etc while in the middle of fragging.
(I just assume everything is poisonous and act accordingly so there will never be any surprises, because some things like Protopalythoa grandis are poisonous-the spew from cutting them instantly kills all the pods etc that happen to be along in the container)

I also throw out all water I have removed from the system for fragging as it has the spewage and glue residues from the fragging process which really shouldn't go back into the tank. It works very well to put the frags/momma in a bucket of water for transport to and from the system, to hold the corals during the process when not actually cutting or gluing and to give the final rinse before going back into the system.

be safe, happy fragging
