Hi, I have owned a 75 gallon tank before but sold it before a move. I had a blue hippo tang in it and my wife and I loved it. I have found a one inch one that will fit in my nanocube but was wondering how long it will be before he needs a bigger tank. He will be the only fish in the tank along with shrimp and inverts. I plan on expanding to a bigger tank in one to two years just want to know if it will last that long.

Hard to say because all fish have different growth rates. Even ones within the same species. I would think you would be ok but do not let it go longer then 2 years at best.

Here's mine two years old blue tang in a 100 g 4' long tank. His size was appr. 5" and there was not enough room for him any more. That was one reason I set up a new 250 g 7' long tank.

I would not try it my self. The fish will grow faster than you would think, if feed correctly, in two years. If the fish is said to require a large tank, your only going to stress it that much more throwing it in a very small tank it willl out grow very fast then moving it to a larger. JMO

Well my wife and I talked it over and we are going with a clown instead. Just hated to see the tang in such a small space. We will still get one when we get a bigger tank however.
