Hi Everybody- I got another sun coral yesterday. My LFS called me at work and let me know they had got it in- I went right after work and picked it up. This pic is right after it went into the tank. (It's the one in the middle) 8)

From what I can tell, looks like another gorgeous addition!
ZenKitty, how do you like your bicolor blenny? I've been mulling over getting a blenny or a goby, and finally settled on the bicolor, I think. :? Anyway, would you recommend one?
Thanks!

are sun corals hard to keep. i dont have any corals yet but im gonna start with some low light hardier corals. would these make a good starter or should i get some mushrooms. i really like the sun corals though.

I think sun corals are considered to be a "moderate to advanced" species. They are low light, and fairly hardy, but they must be target fed several times a week. These guys are not primarily photosynthetic, like most corals. They need to eat to live. ZenKitty may be able to contradict this from her personally experience, but I have also read that they will eat small fish and shrimp. It certainly is a beautiful coral! Just be prepared to give it lots of attention!

about the bicolor blenny, i have one and i find he can be agressive, especially towards my six lined wrasse. He also provides little to no clean up help. Also he nips at the hard skeleton of my torch coral. Hes kinda an idiot.

I agree, sun corals are probably not the best choice for the beginner....if you are interested in them, do as much research as you can, and I'm sure ZenKitty will share experinces with us as time goes by....

Thanks for the input. Maybe I'll hold off, because I don't want a coral nipper!
Thanks again!

Sun Corals are a little difficult to keep. They do have to be hand fed. The sad part they are so beautiful that they attract a lot of novice reefers and they end up dying. I liked my LFS back in Arkansas because if they knew you were new they would sell you the coral. Kind of tough but it kept you from making expensive mistakes.

no sun corals are very easy to keep, but you have to target fed. So kinda like having kids... lol. They don't require much light. Matter of fact it wasone of my daughter's first corals, and they are beautiful.

Wow- I didnt get online all weekend and I havent seen all the posts to this thread!
People always say sun corals are so hard to keep and for advanced keepers only, but I have found them very easy to keep not only alive- but happy. They just require dedication on the keepers part to make sure they are fed, and fed WELL. I try to feed mine every night or atleast every other day. Only problem is I am having some problems with nitrates now.....especially since my brother bought me ANOTHER sun coral this weekend :D Now I am up tp five of them!! Water changes, water changes, water changes. The new one is YELLOW and I am very excited. I am at work now, but can post a pic when I get home.
So, I think I might have met my limit- 5 sun corals in a 16 gallon tank- thats ALOT of food going into such a small place...

FishinInTheDark- I LOVE my bi color blenny. He is so cute- and very curious about what is going on outside the tank. He perches up on rock and watches me :D He is also a great algae eater- I had the start of some hair algae on my heater and he ate it all up in a night. However, when I added my purple firefish he did get a little aggressive- but they have learned to live with eachother. I would definatly recomend one :)

ZenKitty:
Thanks for your reply. I'm so "on the fence" about the bicolors. I've been reading all over, and I see good and bad. My main concern is not aggressiveness, but coral nipping. I think I'll just sit back and wait awhile: maybe I'll happen across one that I just have to have, or maybe it won't be a problem. At least I know I've done plenty of research BEFORE purchasing this fish!
Thanks again!

I was really worried about him nipping corals too- but I just had the take the chance- those little eyes staring at me at the LFS would NOT let me leave without him----So far so good!!
