I am not really sure where to post this so I will just stick it here. Friday when I left for work at 5:00 in the morning I did not look at my salt tank because the lights are not on that early, however when I came home I found somebody missing. When I fed the fish I could not find one of my clowns, they are eager eaters so I got worried. My tank is open toped and so was the last one (30 gal), I have never had a problem with this until today, I came to find my fish on the floor behind the tank. I have had these fish for over a year and now I only have one, possibly if I do nothing I will loose him as well. How do I prevent this? I don't want to have a glass top because it seems I need to clean it daily (tried one for a week) for any of the light to get in. I also have a temp issue when I close off the top of the tank.
Thanks,
Whiskey

use plastic lighting grid, it allows gas exchange and don't hold heat, won't block your light and the fish can't jump out
Thats a pretty cool idea, simple too, thats probably why I didnt think about it first  ! I will have to make a mental note of that one. Thanks "cich1"!

cich1, that is a good idea, where do you pick it up? Is this something I need to get from a LFS or is a trip to home depot in order??
Thanks,

I believe that Home Depot may carry it.

yeah home depot or any electrical supply store, i can't take credit for the idea because i stole it from someone else :D
Look...you had a good story going and it was working, and now you done screwed it all up admitting the truth  . Sorry I had to joke a little with ya on that one.
Any hardware store should fix up up in a heart beat. Its resonably priced too. I cant remember what I paid for a sheet but it wasnt that much. I used some and some PVC pipe to build a base for my live rock to support my live rock at about level with the top of the sand to preclude an avalanche cuased by sand sifting critters in the back half of my tank. Just another great use for this product.....
