this site is so cool. I finally found me a place where i could ask some questions without driving 10 miles from my house to get an answer. Me and my family just bought some fish couple of days ago, a clown fish, lion fish and yellow tang. they are all doin fine not until last night that we noticed the clown fish is not feeling well. it stays above the tank and quiver. although sometimes it swims around and go back to the same place again. clown fish is not as lively like it use to be. Also our lion fish shakes and spits out white film off its gills. Is that normal? The yellow tang is doin fine. Our tank was set up 3 months ago and we had our water tested before we bought the fish. Need any suggestion or idea on what is going on with our fish. My wife and kid are kinda worried. thanx.

the clown fish im not so sure, but i remember seeing it for a quite few weeks in lps. the lionfish, a week. also just an added information, i just turned off the light on the tank and i noticed that the lionfish is now moving around and clown fish still stays above water beside filter outlet.
i'm not very knowledgable regarding reef tank, just the basics. i was just reading through all the messages that was posted in this site and i was so overwhelmed with all the information regarding reef tanks. aslo still catching up with the lingo.

You had your water tested before you bought fish, but had the cycle even started? Maybe you didn't have anything in there to get the biological bugs growing, so there's a huge ammonia spike now. Even if you DID cycle the tank, adding that many fish at once could be causing ammonia and stressing the fish. How big is your tank? Try having your water tested again, I bet that'll shed some light on the subject. . .
Best of luck,

IMO FishInTheDark is right on this one... I was looking at your tank description and noticed there is at least 3 more fishes in that tank, where they all introduced at once? Just adding 3 fish by themselves at once is stressful enough for any tank, I would have to say that you really need to check your water pams. A.S.A.P

We did introduced all of them at once (clown, lion and butterfly). We are all just so excited of having more fish in it. I will just have to get my water tested to find out if ammonia level is good or if cycle is good. Thanx for all the ideas and advise, will get with you guys once water get tested.

could you give some some specifics on your water parameters?
esp. ammonia, nitrite, SG, pH, temp, ect?.....
