Hmmmm.. I just read another thread that recommended the removal of bioballs. My seacube came with filtration built in. One of the chambers in back of the tank is filled with bioballs. Is it beneficial to remove these?
I have about 20 lbs of live rock in a 15 gallon tank.

Since you have the liverock...you can remove them...
But did you know there is a certain way to remove them?
As in remove 1/4 this week, 1/4 next week, 1/4 the week after and finally the last 1/4 of the balls down the road.
This makes sure you don't overload your tank and kill all your beneficial bacteria. If you took them all out, it would stress out your beneficial bactera...if you do it slowly, it gives them time to replenish.

jman785 is absolutely right, do not take the bio balls all at the same time, or you most definetely will end up getting a major cycle going.

Bio-balls are nitrate factories, although they are great, if you don't have liverock ;)

What about those ceramic rings that come with the nanocube by jbj? Should those be removed?

It's usually recommended that all that stuff be removed. It really isn't necessary and it traps nitrates. Toss some LR rubble back there for added natural filtration.
