UK Beach Sand

Just a quick question about beach sand, if I went and got two or three bucket loads of sand from a beach here in the UK - would it be ok to use in my tank? I'd probably mix it around in water first, so it is clean.

If I went out further into the water to get it, would the sand be live? If so, how far?

Well the live sand is suppose to come directly from the ocean, so once it goes through a curing process. I dont see why you cant use it. I would cure it the same way as live rock. But as far as how live would it be Im not sure. But the only bad thing about pulling it like that is the toxins that might be in the sand. I would snorkle out about 20 feet or so, and bucket the sand out there.

i would go out a few miles.... the beach is kind of like the protien skimmer of the ocean, all the crud goes there. the beach sand isnt realy safe, and niether is the water
