I bought a pretty big mushroom rock from my LFS about 2 weeks ago. It is starting the process of letting go and ive found 2 mushrooms on the sandbed. I tried to push them into holes in some of the LR, but within 20 minutes they are hovering on the sandbed again. What have some of you guys/gals done before to get them to stay to start new colonies? thanks

well when my shrooms detach i just frag em and give em away. no point in having loose shrooms in the tank all over.

When I find loose polyps on the sand like you did, I try to place them in a low flow area on the LR, usually (but not always) they will attach. Between doing this and the mushrooms multiplying, I have them all over my tank now :D

Make sure the rock you purchased is in a low to non-existent flow area. Many times any flow that contacts shrooms will cause them to detach. As for the floaters just do as Mike suggested and they should attach in three or four days.

Thanks for the advise, ill keep trying hopefully they will attach. It would be nice to see more colonies around the tank. But when I get enough on the tank, I will start putting some in my other tank :D

What my friend does works very well for mushroom frags to attach to a rock. Take a empty yogurt plastic cup thingy, and cut the bottom off. Make sure the part you cut off is about half an inch tall. Then, full it with rubble. After that, put the mushroom frags on the rubble, and rubber-band a net over it. let it sit for about 2 weeks, then when you pull it out, all the shrooms will be stuck to a rubble peace.

I do something similar but I use old pill containers.
Best luck I have had is to put them in a area of low flow, allowing them to attach to sand/CC. Once they do this I glue them back to what ever rock or a new one that I want them on with GARF Super Glue Gel. This has really worked great for me so far...

By the way, nanoman123, GARF is limited on coral fragging information now, as there instructions are far outdated by the newer techniques that are out now. Although I still like GARF, I don't like there website, as I find it cluttered and hard to navigate...

I love GARF and have learned a lot reading their site, but that horrible newsletter format they use is confusing and hard to navigate. It would be nice if everything on the site was not a link to something they sold as well.
In fact when I finally set up my tank I plan to buy plenty of stuff off of them, but I am going to call to do all the ordering and to ask questions since the site is so confusing.
There are probably some better fragging info out there, but in my opinion still tough to beat. With the exception of navagating thier site, I think that over all they are a gold mine of information.
They are NOT the cheapest place to shop for the most part. They are a little pricey for the most part I would rate the quality very high as well as customer service. Potentially you could get some really exceptional color morphs on their SPS when they are selling them. At least I know I got some eye poppers from them. As soon as they start selling more, rest assured I will be jumping on at least 2 of there 10 for 100.00 dollar SPS coral packs!!!
JMHO....

If you dont want to use adhesive, you can tie them in place with fishing line for about a week, I have had great luck making shroom, button polyp pieces using just line, just dont tie to tight
