The PH in my newly setup 50G salt tank is 7.9, I really like it to be 8-8.2 how can I rase this? Do I need to rase PH? I have arroganite (sp?) substrate and use oceanic salt to mix with tap water.

How new is this tank setup? What's in it? Did you cycle your tank? There's no description of ur tank. Also tap water has a lot of stuff in it that just a regular "tap water conditioner" won't get rid off. IMO almost everybody here including myself woud reccomend RO water.

i had the same problem. my ph was about 8.0. i wanted it to be about 8.3 so i got this bottle of stuff. its a white powder you can get at petsmart. its a red jar thing that says 8.3 real big and has a lion fish on it. pretty easy to use also. and your ph will go to 8.3.

The tank used to be a 30G but I switched it over to 50G I used all the same equiptment and water and live rock just had to add more substrate and water and rock such. The new live rock is still curing in a bucket but I don't plan to add more fish for quite a while if at all so I think I should be ok. I have 32LBS of rock in the tank now it will be over 60lbs when I am sure the other rock is ok to add.

Thanks,
Whiskey

I agree sea buffer is good suff but if you use it watch out it can and will raise your salinity. I am myself switching over to ro did my first 5gal change today in my 37gal scary thing to do wondering what will happen but that is the reason I am going slow. Plus need I add I will be glad when I am done because it is a real pain in the you know what! In the end you will be better off to switch too I have this horrible algea problem going with having used the tap water! First it was red slime now it is hair algea lets just say even the 5gal change even though it sounds insignificant and punie my water clarity looks even better and that is not to say it was really bad at all. Good luck and congrats on moving up to a larger tank wish I had the room to many other tanks.

You can also try using washing soda...it will raise your pH. Dripping kalk will raise the pH as well.
