Hi,

What is the best filter for a 30 gal fish only tank, no live rocks, also do I need a good skimmer ?
and what about a canister filter ? is it works well ?

thanks

a skimmer i think will benefit you. the canister filter isnt all that good because it will start producing a lot of nitrates and a lot of problems. as a best filter i think there is none because everyone has their own opinions. i have a sump on my fowlr.

In a FO a skimmer would usually be unessesary. You could go with a Fluval Canister Filter. You could also go with a good HOB and a Powerhead for more watermovement

I run the emperor 330, berlin style skimmer, and a 228 powerhead on my 29 gal predator tank. So far it's working out great, all of these are fairly cheap to buy also.

In my fish only tanks I liked using a aquaclear because of the nice area they have for media. and I've always used a skimmer. and powerheads.

Do I need some thing more ?

Also, what about corbom filtration ? do I have to use always ?

and what about the bio-ceramic inside the canister it works good ?

thanks again ?

If I am not mistaken the bio-ceramic inside the canister is where the bacteria bulds up, which is what you want. I also have th fluval 304 and it does a nice job.

The only other thing I would recommend is a power head. I have a Rio 600 power head in my 54 corner you could possibly use the 400 to get some additional water movement in the tank. The power heads are inexpensive especially compaired to the other items you have already purchased.

The skimmer will do more than one thinks. I was a skeptic on skimmers until I put the prizim in my tank and saw how the fish dramaticlly improved and the additional crud being pulled out of the tank.
