These have a 60 degree viewing area as apposed to the standard 30 degree (less spotlight looking).

I am experimenting with a set of these. I just spliced a 12 volt wall wart in place of the pc connection. They look real nice on the tank and put out just enough light. I will try to get some pics tonight when they come on.

I use cold cathode lights that you would use in your computer box. or you see on some cars around town, I like the way it makes the whole tank a lights blue shimmer instead of it spot lighting like LED's.
PS but if you want to go with LED's I've got 4 blue and 1 white and 5 resistors, that I never used, I would let go for $ 5.00 shipped

After looking online more, I'm also gonna go with one or two Cathode (neon?) lights.

ya I got mine at walmart,in the auto department, they had 2 smaller tubes for like 13 bucks that's what I got. and they have a longer one for like 18 bucks, and that's what I'd get if to do it again. and I used a plexy glass strip to mount it on.
and a 1.75 amp 12 VDC. it's a unit that goes from AC to 12 amp car lighter plug in.

Where on the tank did you place them? I have a 60-hex, so it's much less surface area at the top. I might get just one of the shorter lengths...

I used 100 OHM Resistors 1/2 watt, 8 Blue Led Lights, and for a power supply I used 6 volt supply. Here are some photos of my setup

The moonlights in my Custom Sealife fixture are super bright white LEDS. In nature, the moon is not blue. (Though when dark-adapted, our eyes see blue better than any other color.) So I would think moonlights should be white.

The moon reflects sunlight....but at a much lower intensity. The light is "white", but the atmosphere filters out some of the light spectrum....more blue light gets through than any other spectrum.

Yeah I used a blue cathode tube out of my computer case. You can use a 9volt power supply if you want the light to be dimmer, otherwise use a 12volt power supply. Works excellent! I put mine on a seperate timer so it comes on with the regular light goes out.

Here's mine:

they aren't really that bright...but my camera is a 4 year old digital, so the shutter stays open forever when the light is this low, thus magnifying the amount of light you see.
