glass hood

I have a old 55 tank the center brace was gone when i got it. How good is a glass lid that will fit all the way across the tank? will it bow and break? I want to use 2 flourescent lights so a full hood wouldnt work nor would leaving it open since there will be a eel in it.

I think it would be a problem. I would consider buying a canopy or making one yourself that would contain the eel. If you put a glass lid across the top of the tank you will end up with a heat problem and your gasses will not exchange very well.

A canopy with a fan in it to keep it cool.

well i havent had a problem with my 90. the top is completely covered except the back half to allow for my filter. the temp stays cool. im just worried about the single hood breaking. I could empty the whole tank take it down and having a new center brace put in but thats a lot of work.
