Hi everbody,

I have a big problem in my tank. This is my story :

I have my FO tank for 3 month and I put in the tank 1 hippotang, 1 yellow tang and 1 clown fish. one day all the fishes had ich the hippo tang died and then the clown fish also died. The yellow tang got well, and had no more ich. I stayed just with the yellow for 1 month, after this 1 month I put another clown fish after 2 days the clown got ich and after 5 days he died, and the yellow tang is still very very good.

what is wrong with my tank ?

ammonia 0,0
nitrite 0,0
nitrate 0,0

I didn't know, I don't treated my tank after the fist ich.
Now I'm treating with copper.

do you think after treatment my next fish will survive ?

thanks

Are you getting all the fish from the same LFS?

Watch your tank water for a possible cycle, sometimes copper can have an impact on your biological filter...

LFS= local fish store

Copper is great for treating Ich, but when used in the main tank it can kill inverts and damage the biological filter. It is also somewhat difficult to remove from the tank. That is part of the reason I always advise treating fish in a seperate quarantine tank....

thanks,

2 clown was from the same store the yellow tang another and the hippo a friend of mine gave to me.

so, my tank is just FO do you think I must continue the copper treatment in the mais tank, stop, or another treament.

now I have just the Yellow tang and he is very good, but I need to treat the main tank right ?

thanks again

Don't treat the main tank.

I'd remove the sick fish to a seperate quarantine tank (if you don't have one, call the LFS, they are usually willing to treat sick fish in their QT tanks if you buy the meds) and treat them there. Treating the main tank can have some pretty nasty results, especially if you are using copper.

thanks to help me again

In my tank there is just the Yellow and he is very good, but what about my next fish I will put in the tank, he can get ich ? if I don't treat the main tank. And how the problem will disapear from my tank ?

What exacly I need to do step by step ?

Sorry to bother with a lot of question but I don'd understand very much about saltwater tank.

again
thank you so much

The "ick" parasite almost always exists in your tank in one life stage or another, reguardless of medication. In the past, I've had FO tanks set up with fish and no new inhabitants for over several years and still seen outbreaks. The key to battling ick is preventive maintenance.

A QT tank is a must IMO. This allows you to treat sick fish without the risk of harm to your main tank, it allows you to segregate a sick fish form the healthy ones in the main tank, and it also allows you to make sure new fish are not sick before introducing them to the main tank.

The other part of battling ick has to do with water quality. Low water quality will stress the fish, lowering their natural resistance to the ick.

If your water quailty is ok, your tang will have a much better chance of remaining ick free if the infected fish are removed from the main tank, until they are healthy again.
