I've been looking into the kits sold at 1000bulbs.com for the metal halide's...

I'm wondering what folks here use to cover their bulbs to prevent erosion from water evaporation and such? I won't have much space between the tank itself and the bulbs as they'll be mounted inside a canopy...

Any ideas?

I think you mean corrosion? if so, a canopy will do most of that, just keep air moving through the canopy with some fans(computer fans work perfectly) this will also help prevent temp swings when the lights are on/off.

So essentially just having a glass cover on the actual tank is enough? I realy don't want to worry about arcing, evaporation onto the bulbs etc...

The thing is you dont want to completly cover your tank with a glass cover because if you do. You will not get proper gas exchange and your tank will have an excess build up of carbon dioxide. What I did with mine was take a small piece of tempered glass to cover just underneith the bulb so there is no risk for splash up on the bulb. There is a space on each side of the glass that is open to the water so proper gas exchange can take place.
