I have decided that my 55 gallon tank which was suppose to be a reef tank will be my FOWLR and my 90 gallon that is FOWLR will be my reef tank. Im taking the refugium off the 55 and putting it on the 90. My question is what does any one think of the Tetratec filter with the biological and mechanical filter?
Is it good? Any one using it?

Filters like that tend to become nitrate factories. If you have enough live rock, it will provide all the biological filtration your tank requires. "Mechanical" filtration can be handled by scavengers, pods, ect. These types of filters are really not necessiary on a properly set up. FOWLR or reef tank. A skimmer would be a better investment, IMO. Many reefkeepers successfully keep tanks without skimmers, but this is a practice I recommend only attempted by more advanced hobbyists.

I dont want much LR. I know some of these are nitrate factories, but so are wet dry filters. I am using a skimmer. just need an extra filter.

how much live rock are you planning on keeping in your 90 gal? LR is a very important (if not the most important) componant of a good reef tank...

very true, i think besides the salt in the water lol LR is the most important thing

first - Im using this filter for my FOWLR not my reef tank.
second - the reef tank will have about 100lbs or more as soon as i start making some more rock..........

Im intrested in using the filter for the fish only tank with about 25lbs of lR

sorry....I thought you wanted to use this on the 90 gal reef. So you are planning on using this on a 55 gal FOWLR tank with 25 lbs of LR, correct?

Correct. I know i made it a little complicated, but i just couldnt decided. My uncle has a 250gallon tank that is FO with not substrate 2 rocks. He custom built all his parts and decided to get rid of his 300 dollar refugium (buying it plus the UV for only $40) 8) . the refugium doesnt fit under my 55 so i figured why not switch out the tanks.

I have a wet dry filter, but i dont want to deal with the overflow box. This is why im curious about using the Tetratec. With another filter and some planted macro.
