I was just wondering if air pump in necessary in FO tank?

If you have a protein skimmer you don't need an airpump. Also if you have a Power head that sucks air into the head you don't need a pump. Otherwise you need something to get O2 into the water.

Your best bet would be to get a skimmer cause the powerheads that suck air and also the air pumps create alot of creep so the benifits of oxygenating the water and taking out pollutants with the simmer seem better to me.

plus to much air bubbles in your main tank is not good any way with LR,the bubbles could get trapped under pockets in your live rock and could cause,toxic gas pockets.
believe me I know I had a real nice shelf piece in one of my old tanks that sat about mid way in my tank and was there for a long while,one day I was looking for one of my blue lobsters that came up missing,and when I moved that rock to look under it, a nasty air bubble came to the top and when it popped the gas was so bad it about knocked me out
