today, april 12, 2004 i got a maroon clown from the lfs! it swam so nicely and looked amazing. after minutes of looking at it my brother asked if i wanted it ( since i couldnt afford it due to my rapid investing into corals ) and so i decided to get him. he is about 3 and a half inches and it only cost 15 dollars! i was like what tha? is there something wrong with it the owner said no but he'll sell it to my brother cheaper since my brother is a frequent shopper there. i put it into my main tank where it has taken over my perc's anenome and chases my perc. i coudlnt watch it any more and i moved him to a 10 gallon where there is my older brother's goldstripe maroon clown. they chase each other a bit and my maroon got nipped in the tail! since my brother was a nice guy he let me get egg crate and split his tank into 2 so i can keep my fish until i find out what i want to do with it. ive been wanting to start a nano-reef. i was planning on getting a 10 gallon to do it and frag corals from my main tank. is this thing reef compatible? anyone have a problem with a maroon clown in their reef tanks?

maroons can be pretty territorial clowns, esp. the goldstripes. We've been discussing them in another thread...

as for reef compatibility, I'd say they would be ok with the corals and inverts, but would probably be quarrelsome with other fish.

More than likely that was a clown that was brought back to the store after someone raised it. It's highly territorial and was most likely causing problems in the previous owners tank. The LFS that my wife manages gets fish like that sometimes and they sell them at a lower price to move them along, so they don't kill their fish. Usually they try to sell them to people with very large tanks so there is less chance of territorial problems.

oh cool.. the lfs is one of my brothers really good friends.. he is over my house very often and i dont think he would play us just to make a quick buck. hopefully not anyway. so your wife manages a lfs salty? lucky guy. she gets that certain number of percentage off of everything huh? LOL!

Yeah she does, it mainly helps with the fish. Even with shipping I find that most everything else I can get online cheaper. I'm willing to pay LFS prices on the fish, because we get to observe them and get a feel for the over all health. Plus, if I want a special fish she can order it for me and we get to check it out before buying.
