I am very sad to say that I think my Black Perculas killed my Yellow Tang :(
The yellow tang had attatched himself to the percs in the last couple of weeks and swam with them no matter where they went.. this seemed fine by the percs until he decided to bed down with them in their "nest" (a hole they have dug in the substrate) last night.
Me being naieve thought it was funny that my yellow tang had an identity crisis, and laughed when the percs shooed him away. This morning I awoke to find my yellow tang in the far corner at the opposite end of the tank.. dead! He had what looked like bruises or some kind of marks on his sides that weren't there before I had gone to bed the night before.
All params are normal, and the percs are happy as larry
I thought clownfish were peaceful.. is this likely to happen again?

Sounds to me like the Black Perculas were looking to breed. I am not sure of this, but that's what it seems like to me. If this is the fact then it seems logical that they would try to keep the tang away from their nest, and if the tang was insistant on being with them I would think that yes they would end up killing the tang.

that sounds like what happened to me too.
You might want to do a couple goolge searches on "clownfish breeding" tyhere will be a couple pagtes that will give good instructions on raising the fry,and how to tell when the eggs are going to hatch

"when clownfish go bad..."
Sometimes clowns can be territiorial....the last pair of false percs I had killed eachother a few weeks after putting them in the tank. I also had a maroon striped clown that was one of the most aggressive, territorial fish I have ever owned...

Yeah Mike I have a Gold Stripe Maroon Clown now and boy oh boy if anything gets close to his RBTA he goes ballistic. I was moving some things around the other day. Some of my LR fell and I had to put it back up, well that sucker must have hit me seven times in less than a minute and it was amazingly hard too. :-)

yeah, I got attacked by my maroon every time I stuck my hand in the tank for anything. It also would try to attack me through the glass when I was looking at the tank....beautiful fish, but a nasty little sucker...I had to keep him in his own tank cause he'd try to kill anything I put in with him...

I've had my Maroon clown for 4 days now and he seems to be doing really well. I still have the 1 damsel in the tank and the one thing I've noticed is that the damsel doesn't hide anymore. When he was alone in the tank he stayed behind a rock all day and now he follows the clown fish around. I'm not sure if the clown is irritated by this but he doesn't seem to be. I would really like to add a starfish. Does anyone have a red sea starfish? I hear they are pretty easy to care for. I just want to make sure my clown will not bother it? Oh, one other thing I wanted to mention about the price, My LFS sells all their clowns for $5.99 regardless of type. The one I just got is about 2 inches long. I live in central California and I have 2 stores to choose from and they are both about the same price for clowns. I'm not sure what the pricing is like in other parts of the country.

I've had my Maroon for a week now and he finally started showing his aggresive side. When I try to take a water sample he comes after me. He totally hates the Hydraumeter and attacks it when I put it in the tank. For the first few days that I had him he would back away from the front of the tank whenever I walked up to it and now he swims right up to the front when he sees me coming. I'm not sure if he's being territorial or if he thinks I'll give him food but when I take a water sample he tries to bite the glass tube. Funny little guy but I'm afraid he will hurt anything else I might put in the tank, Although he doesn't mind my purple Damsel. Fish are strange!
