View Full Version : High-Flow Non-Electric Wavemaker?

Is anyone away of a non-electric wavemaker like the SCWD that can handle high flow? This is for a closed loop with a single pump in the range of 2000gph to 4500gph. That is too much for a SCWD but obviously since it is a single pump I cannot use any of those powerhead timers or anything like that.

If I split the return lines I could run multiple SCWDs but there would be no way to synchronize them. It would just create random currents which, although better than static flow, wouldn't be as good as wave action in my mind (mainly because many nozzles would cancel each other some of the time).

Does anyone know of any SCWD or SCWD type devices that are capable of handling higher flow? Or perhaps somebody knows how they work and I could try to make my own?

On a side note, if I was running a 180g tank with a 55g sump what kind of flow would you recommend? I was planning an 1800gph for a sump return pump (@ 4ft) and maybe a 3600gph pump for the closed loop. Would this be a good setup or would it be too much or too little flow?
