I was calling around the LFS and this guy was selling a seaclear wet/dry filter for a180 gallon tank at around $120.00. Have you guys ever heard of this filter because I'm thinking about buying it and putting my skimmer in it as well?

Tell us a bit more about your existing setup. Or your plans for your tank.

I am not personally familiar with the Seaclear wet/dry filter, but if you are looking to set up a Reef tank, the general consensus is to not use wet/dry filtration since it tends to cause increased nitrates due to the aerobic bacteria in the wet/dry filter. You can just use a standard sump or, if you want, go with a refugium, which is a sump with substrate and macro algae and light. This helps to filter out unwanted nutrients and provides an area for copepods and other beneficial critters to repopulate the tank.

Thanks for replying again Telco. You seem to be one of the only people here willing to help out a newbie. Anyways I was at the LFS last night to check out the w/d filter. It looked dirty but would be able to function well since all the parts looked in good shape. I plan on going FOWLR since I'm afraid that I'd kill all those corals with my inexperience. Looks like there are 2 different towers for this sump so I'm going to put my Turboflotor 100 on it as well. I am going to run this wet/dry filter with what the owner recommended which was a Rio 2100. I have right now 2 maxi 1200 running and a via aqua 750 in my tank and i'm currently curing 100 lbs of Live Rock.

Are these normal:
PH: 8.0
Ammonia: 1.5
I'm using Salifert Test Kits
1.026 gravity
78 degrees

I thought I'd be getting more ammonia since I bought uncured live rocks. Maybe it will be different later on tonight.
