What type of live sand is good for a FOWLR tank? I was thinking either Caribsea Seaflor Special Grade, Caribsea Oolitic Sand, Tahitian Moon Sand, or Florida Crushed Coral. I am going to set up a 135 glass aquarium and would like at least 2" of sand on there.

Hey
I would say florida keys LS is great, i have exp. with many types of sand have really only seen one type with lots of life! You could start out with some base sand like southdown and then get a few pounds of live to really get your sandbed going.

So the crushed coral would be good in my tank? I understand that the local HD's in southern ca don't have southdown sand because that's the type I was looking for because it was inexpensive. How does the black sand look on a SW tank?

The best sand for LS is the oolitic type or the sugar sized sand. This provides more surface area for beneficial bacteria to grow. It also allows for other critters to burrow in the sand.

As for the Southdown sand being available in So Cal HD, no, it is not, but I have been considering getting some shipped out here. If I can get enough people together that want some maybe I can put together an order. I need several bags myself.

thanks for the replies...you can count me in on that list Telco...i'm sure you can get a lot of people to buy those bags. By the way, Lakers rule!! :) I hate the Kings with a passion and I'm sure their fans hate the Lakers just as much.
