Notes about my setup:
I built my light rig out of a PVC pipe. Check out http://reefrancher.com/diy/halfpipe/ for more details.
The refugium is on a reverse light cycle and drips into the surge device.
I use a floatswitch in my sump to control the auto top off for water evaporation.
Recently, I picked up a used aquacontroller for monitoring tank conditions, paging my cell phone if something is out of range, controlling actinics, halides, refugium light, moon light, and heater.
I also have a battery back up on the return pump. If the power goes out I get paged to my cell phone.
My fish and corals really like the surge device.
