View Full Version : difference between t5 and t8 bulbs? HELP!

i have an eclipse system 6 with a t5 8 watt light. it currently has about 7 lbs of live rock and a 2 inch live sand bed. 2 perc clowns. what is the difference between t5 bulbs and t8 bulbs? will the t8 bulbs fit in my eclipse system 6? the t8 bulbs are 32 watts. please help. or if you can send me links to where i can get t5 32 watt bulbs.

if anything can someone just tell me where i can get a 32 watt light that fits my eclipse system 6 nano? it is about 12 inches it seems.

i'm not sure but i think T5 are smaller bulbs then T8.....so if you tried you would have to find some converter caps, but i can't help you about gettin some 32 watt T5s.....try lookin on Hellolights.com maybe they can help you out

When talking about any fluorescent tubes, it is probably easiest to describe them by their 'T' size. The T stands for 8ths of an inch. Most of the normal output tubes you can get are 25mm wide and so get the name T8. The older ones were T12, but we hardly see these anymore. The new T5 tubes (5/8 of an inch) have a much higher output and can penertrate the water deeper. You can keep a lot more corals with these and thats why they are becoming more popular...
