Hi Everyone

Thought I'd intro myself.

I've been reefing for 14 years, in the hobby for 57 (66 years young). Currently, I'm running a 100 gal system, 75 gal custom Acrylic aquarium plus 25 gal in a Rubbermaid sump. The system has been up 21 months. It's a mixed reef/fish system. Lighting is 36" VHO, 3 URI Aquasuns and 1 URI Super Actinic, Ice Cap 660 ballast. Water movement is provided by an Iwaki 40 RLT pump drawing 750 gph from sump and returning to tank via a manifold and 3 return lines, one going through a SCWD making 4 total return lines.

I'm utilizing a DSB consisting of 200 lbs of Southdown sand (4 1/2") with 40 lbs of Caribbean LS, 40 lbs of Fiji LR and 35 lbs of Kailini LR.

Corals and other things are, M. capricornus, frogspawn, purple acro, purple tip acro, a plate coral, xenia, button polyps, yellow polyps, toad stool softie, waving hand polyps, sponges, tunicates, 3 Hawaiian featherdusters, a long tentacle anemone and other things.

Fish include, a Purple Tang (Boss of tank), a Marine Beta, 2 Allen's Damsels, a Canary Damsel (thinks he's boss), a Banggai Cardinal, a Royal Gramma, an Atlantic Pygmy Dwarf Angel, a pair of black Perculas, a bicolor Blenny, a yellow banded Coral Shrimp and I must be forgetting somebody.

My wife and I are currently building a home in the Fort Pierce, FL area on 5 1/2 acres and will build a greenhouse for proping corals and all that is related to reefing. I'm retired from 40 years of pipefitting and wanted something to do besides lay around the pool all day. We will be offering these frags etc, for sale on our website along with other reef related things.

If you would like to view my system, I'm currently working on putting an updated set of pictures of the 75 on our website. Keep in mind I'm not finished with the verbage but if you'd like to see them go to our 75 reef. (http://www.theculturedreef.com/our75.htm)

I think your 75 gallon tank is simply breath taking.

I have plans to move to Florida myself. Not for a couple more years, but soon enough... :)

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the welcome.

Zack, MikeJS

As time permits, I'll add some flavor to the forum. :-D I have seen and done a lot, some successes, some failures like all of us. Just had some interesting e-mails with Zack. I think we got several things ironed out and I believe this will be a good forum.

You can say that again...

Good news from the store front. My owners seemed to have finally ventured to my website, and felt a little embarrassed. They had no idea that I was into the hobby like that. Hard to imagine, as it seems to be just about the only thing I talk about...

After a nice Dinner, we talked about some improvements for the store, and I think things may be looking up for the animals we keep. Let's keep our fingers crossed....

I guess that sounds odd to hear sometimes. I have looked at my tank before and thought it just didn't look the way I think it should, while others think it is incredible. I am my own worst critic I guess. It is definetly nice to hear though. Makes me feel a little better. Thank you...

Just wish I could get the fish to get over their fear of my camera. They are out all the time, until I set up the tripod. Then like majic, they all disappear.

They seem to recognize the camera as something dangerous. I use a lot of patience and a telephoto lens to back away. That helps but being patient and moving slow around the tank.

Are you heading to IMAC or MACNA this year? I'm going to both it's great to meet the reefers conversing on the forums.

I have not yet had the $$$ to attend any of these meetings. I am going to take a vacation to visit family down in Florida the first week of April.

This is the first Vacation I have taken in over 8 years.

Wow! Enjoy your FL trip. What part of FL? We are building a home inbetween Vero Beach and Ft. Pierce. After we move we'll set up a greenhouse for coral fraggin and everything else reefy.

Hernando County area. About 45 minutes North of Clearwater. Atleast if you drive like most people in florida do. :)
