May be an extremely dumb question but I was just wondering if the water that I receive through my refrigerator door would be considered R/O water? When I hear them talk about it they are always saying something about the filter being good. So I just thought that it may work when I need to top off just a little bit. Only have a thirty and a ten gallon, so it doesn't take a lot. I prefer to do it a little each day and then do my 10% water changes weekly so there isn't major changes at one time. Normally I buy R/O water from my LFS.
Hey
I reallyu don't think it is. This is tap water more then likely with the same metals and other elements in the water. If you have the test kits you could test it for many of the metals in it. I would stick with the RO from the LFS but if you can, try to save up for one of your own. Many sponsors here offer great discounts on RO filters as well.

I just wondered because it is run through a filter and I thought that may take out all the 'bad' stuff. I've only got the basic test, ammonia, ph, nitrite and nitrate. That's not what you are referrng to is it? Thank you!!

Only the stuff that is bad for human consumption but not good enough for our aquatic friends

Okay, thanks! Back to the LFS for my water. At least until I can get my own RT filter. Do you recommend any certain make or model?

how much does your LFS charge for RO water?

I could be off a nickle or so but I think the plain RO water is .40 and the premixed saltwater is .65
I take a five gallon jug for saltwater and then a two gallon for RO and it cost me less than $5 Well worth it to me. At least until I can get my own filter.

that's not too expensive....
Have you tested the plain RO for nitrates and phosphates, just to make sure you are getting what you paid for? If not, I'd reccommend it...

No, I haven't done any testing. But that really is a good idea. I've got the nitrate kit but don't have anything to test phosphates. But I'll pick one up tomorrow. Did I read one time that if you have an algae problem it could be because your phosphates are high?
