I guess that would not make it a True FOWLR tank!! My tank has cycled and I am considering all of the different ways to go concerning stocking it. I am sure that I would like to add 2 percula Clowns. Beyond this I am still not sure. I would like to add a limited number of Inverts such as Clams and Feather dusters. It this against the rules in a Non Reef tank?

Well if you go the way of clams you may want to invest in a Metal Halide setup. But if you want to keep Featherdusters they should be fine in a FOWLR. Just make sure you feed them correctly and they should thrive.

Thanks for the info. What about an anenome. I have read that they are very hard to care for. Is there one that would be more hardy than the others? Is it a good idea to keep clown fish without an anenome? Thanks fof the help

Anemones are harder to care for. The biggest issue is getting a healthy one to start with. I would get your feet wet with caring for some less demanding inverts before trying an anemone.
I think I already gave my views on lighting issues for the clam, but in the end I have to agree with Condiman about the MH. This does make the lighting issue pretty much disappear. But, just keep your eye on the animal, as it will let you know what it needs... :)

I will hold off on the Clams until I get the MH lighting. Thanks

I know you probably want a clam real bad. But I do feel you are making the best choice. :)

I agree....I'd avoid clams under PCF alone, just to be safe. I currently have a PCF/VHO combo, and I have a T. Derasa that has been thriving and growing under them for 2 years now, but I would attribute most of that to the actintic light the clam recieves from my VHOs

I have a 50/50. 96 watts half actintic and half 10000K.
THis is not considered VHO, Right??

Correct. VHO ( Very High Output ) Fluorescent tubes. They look just like regular fluorescent bulbs but have much higher wattage ratings, and need special ballasts to power them.
I think PC are fine lights, but IIRC as Mike mentioned, the debate on the amount of available light in the proper spectrums is still open for debate.

you will find the subject of lighting to be one of the more heavily debated subjects in reefkeeping.... :D
