I am going to be setting up a 70 gal fo tank and have a question on something.Would it be ok if I were to take my 35 gallon and use it underneath as a "sump" and put my emperor 4oo and my protein skimmer on it as opposed to having them in my main tank and just flow the water through my main tank to the sump and back.I also will have a Magnum 350 in use but I can attach that to my main tank.I also will be using a couple of powerheads for circulation.Would this be a good idea?????

Are you planning to go reef in the future?

Becareful with your sumps water level...

If the water level is too high, which it will be in order to run the Emperor 400, then when a power outage occurs you will sure flood the floor.

If you must use this particular filter, I suggest leaving it on the main display... :)

I wont need to run the water level that high because the emperor has an extenion.I could run the water 2 inches from the bottom if I wanted and it would work. But what Im asking is Would it work? The waters still gvetting filtered thats going into the tank its just not getting filtered right there in thye main tank.Would that still be ok

Yes, it would work. The return from the waterfalls is what concerned me. This splashing will cause salt spray to get all over the place... :)

But it should work as long as it doesn't have to pull from to far away. The pumping unit on the emperor is not designed to pull from great depths. This "pull" starts to create a bit of "suction" in the main pickup which can cause the unit to stop running if there is to much change in water height.

I would no recommend using it this way....
