What is the typical tank topper everyone is using?
I have the sliding glass which allows maximum light through but I have had bad experiences with build up on the glass forcing me to clean them frequently.
Or do you find you need anything on the tank at ll except the lights?

most people dont put a topper on their tank, axept their canopy, which holds their lights. this is because we need as much surface area for gas exchange as possible, and some tops will dramatiaclly cut down on available fresh air. Gas exchange can be helped along with little fans, like theones used in computers, or larger ones if neccasary(butchered that word so bad) to keep fresh air running overthe water, and if lights run hot, across lights to keep them as cool as possible

I just have a piece of glass that I tempered at work to protect my MH bulb from splash

I run 960 watts of fluorescents, so I have no top. My tank would boil by noon if I did... :)

I could put the one piece of glass on top leaving 70% of the top open glass would be used to protect lights and a fan to help blow across.. Great thanks for the ideas.
Does anyone hang their lights above the tank or do you have them sitting on top?

There's nothing but air between my light rig and the water :-)
Of course, I have a 33gallon barrel of ro/di water for topoff so I don't have to deal with the evaporation manually.

I use plexiglass....I'm a little wary about moisture messing up my PCF endcaps, they are not as well sealed as my VHO caps....
I chose plexiglass because I read somewhere it doesn't filter out as much UV light as glass, but I'm not sure if this is true....

I got tired of having to clean the glass, so I just added the fans and took the glass off. 2+ years with little to no problems. I do have to wipe the VHO bulbs off every 6 months or so, but there is not much to wipe off really. I just do it to give me a little piece of mind.
They really do need to come up with a better water tight endcap for PC's...:)
