I have a couple of clown fish. They are about 2 years old. If I keep my tank condition in top standard, will they breed?

Thanks
April

1st of all you need a male and a female

I'm sorry, I had to say it.

I have 5 so my probability of getting a pair is very good. Hopefully they will breed like a clown.

Is one larger than the rest? This will become the female. Yes, Clowns can change sexes. But, you will need to keep an eye on them, because when they do pair off they will get very territorial and will probably kill the other clowns.

What size tank do you have? What other inhabitants do you have? Are these Clowns all from the same parents? It's best to get them from separate parents, but not absolutely necessary.

I have a 110 gal tank. I raise them with other invertebrates.

I would suggest getting the book Clownfish by Joyce Wilkerson. It is one of the best breeding books for clownfish that I have ever read.

Also, check over at Reef Central in their breeders forum. Some good advice is likely to be found there. It is moderated by Frank Marini Ph.D., an expert with breeding Bangaii Cardinals.

What type of Clowns are they????

Species names if possible. I have the book, so I can give you some advice on the difficulties involved with the species you have. But I need to what they are.... :)

they look pretty similar, but the true percula is a little harder to come by....which one do you have?

Mike

PS- True Percs are by far my favorite clowns...I've had a few of them, awesome fish!
