Okay, my 55G is just flying through its cycle! I'm truly amazed how live rock kick starts the process.

I have vacated a 10G freshwater tank to make a QT for the 55G. I'm going to move it to a back room, and I would prefer not to have it running unless it's in use. It has been running with a Penguin 125. I removed the biowheel and floated it in my wet/dry. Do you think it will be able to carry enough nitrifying bacteria to put the tank back together from time to time with a small new fish or a few sickies (hopefully only rarely!)? I'd clean it between uses, but if I leave it in the wet/dry it should always be ready and I wouldn't have to keep the tank running.

That's my theory. Do you all think it'll work? I could always put the whole penguin on the back of the show tank, but I'd rather not have any more equipment junking it up, you know?

Thanks again for all the generosity with your knowledge!

That sounds like it should work....

when I need to use my quarantine tank, I just fill it up with water from my main tank, and replace the tank water with new salt water....

Thanks again, Mike! How's the weather up there? I thought I heard there was supposed to be snow north and south of us, but none here. :(

Windy. Big surprise! When I lived there, I was on the corner of Poplar and Outer Drive. I remember the wind ripping my car door away from me and laying it completely open against my front fender! That's just one more thing I don't miss about your town! Of course, we're supposed to have 60 mph gusts all weekend, so this grass isn't much greener!

Hold on!

yeah, that's a windy part of town....we live in Eastgate II.....not as windy....but when the wind is howling 40mph+ it doesn't make a huge difference where you are in this town....... :D
