Personally I would recamend a skimmer. But I am not sure on what brand would work best for you maybe someone else can help with this

Protein Skimmers are not necessary if you do frequent water changes, say about one gallon weekly. A skimmer can be added later if you want. A good skimmer to get is the CPR bakpak 2R protein skimmer. This skimmer hangs on the back of the tank and is operated by a powerhead, they run a little over $100 bucks.

Most Nano Reef's are run without the use of a skimmer and do just fine. As Greg said, regular water change, good filtration, and running carbon really helps.

i run a 10g nano with a royal gramma, tomato clown, and neon goby and i only use a penguin mini bio-wheel filter, and i have had no traces of ammonia for at least a year. i do a weekly water change of 1 gallon a week and use tap water with stress coat. its all fine. i have 2 rics, a finger leather, and a bullseye shroom for corals so far..... and a pep shrimp.

havent ever had any problems, besides my xenia colony getting all eaten by my turbo snail.....

nanos are great and good luck with yours!!
