View Full Version : Adding LR gradually??

I'm currently in the process of setting up my very first SW (52g). One of my main aims is to do it slowly... that way I can both learn properly as I go along (the main reason), and spread the overall costing out a little.

Its my intention to purchase LR and add it to my tank piece by piece, and I started thinking that maybe it would be a better idea to have a quarantine tank set up, and intially put the new purchases of LR in there rather than straight into my tank (which will eventually contain fish!).

Will this idea help reduce stress on my running tank, or would it just be complicating things un-necessarily?

Thanks
Lisa

Hi Lisa....in my opinion, for what it's worth :) I would add the LR all at once, so it can cure at the same time. If this is impossible to do because of the cost factor, (I know LR is pricey), then the quarantine tank would probably be best. I know you can buy fully cured rock, but you may still get a small cycle when adding. Whenever I add anything new to my tank, I always wait for a period of time before adding anything else. In this hobby, "patience is a virtue". :)

Thanks seawillow, I appreciate the feedback.
I bought my first lot of LR today (YAY!), but on taking it home and putting it in my tank realise how much more I really need! :eek2: (not so yay  )
