Hey
Had a quick question, i am upgrading my sump from 15 to 50 gallons, the flow from the tank to sump will be the same and distance from pump back to tank will be the same will i need a larger pump just because of the larger sump?

Depends what are you going to keep in the new sump?

Yes, since the sump is gravity fed with an overflow, then the size of the pump simply determines the flowrate through the sump. In other words, the faster you pump the water out of the sump the faster it will come in. Of course, if your flow from the tank is somehow restricted and less than the flow rate of the pump then you will have a big problem.

Zack, fire me PM if you still need to talk this over.

Simple answer is: If line pressure and pull are same as before at the input and oulet of pump then no your GPH will not change.

Not so simple answer: You know where to reach me bud.

Not nessicaraly depends on if your overflow or bulkhead can handle

If there is no change made to the main pump or plumbing, then any differences will be slight and not cause any issues.

If your main tank can handle more water flow through your overflow system, them upgrade if you feel the need, but overall the water exchange will not change.

In fact, if the water level is raised in the new sump over the old one, the your pump will not have to work as hard to deliver the same volume of water.
