i recently bought a xenia coral, but it looks different from ur normal one. instead of a big stem with big polyps on it, its no main stem. just a whole bunch of SMALL polyps covering a rock. any IDs, or ideas to frag it?

Most likely the species called Anthellia. Virtually the same as xenia in appearance, but the growth is encrusting like star polyps. No central stalk.

You can try to cut and peel back the base. Then ruberband it to a rock.
Or, you can place a small rock near its base, and allow it to grow onto the rock, then cut the rock free once it has been encrusted.
Use a razorblade to do the cutting, avoid making jagged tears or rips, as these will be harder to heal than nice clean cuts.
