UV sterilizers are not reccomended for healthy reef tanks. They will kill any and all live plankton, which will keep your corals nice and perky. The sterilizer also kills algae,( which seems good) but the algae are needed for a healthy tank. The algae are kind of like an indicator species, and if they are under controll your tank is doing well in the area that affect algal growth. If the algae is out of control, you need to fix a problem. UV sterilizers will not fix the problem, ony the circumstances. and a problem will still be there. fix the problem, the algae goes away, without having to kill all the mico-life.

Certain there are opposing opinions with relationship to the uv, it is also said that the whole bacterias as well as the micro-fauna lodges in the rocks and that for that reason there are not problems with the rest, but it is also certain that that your you say.

Definitely could be a nice healthy, heated debate here...

Paidbychrist0825, you are off in some ways IMO, if ran on a timer, for a short period of time, a UV sterilizer, can be beneficial to a reef environment.
