I am starting a 150 UK gall. tank and was wondering about tangs fighting. My lfs said that I either buy 1 tang or 5 tangs, nothing between as they will fight!?

I wanted 1 powder blue, 1 purple and 1 sailfin (along with some blue/green chromis, flame angel and maybe a couple others)...

Would this be OK? (I'll have liverock and coral in the tank aswell...) with a 30 uk gall. sump.

The Tangs And Clowns Are Risky Becuase They Will Probably Fight

Well what is 150 uk gallons. the lfs advice is also crappy. the thing that says 1 or 5 is totally wrong. they want ur money not sucess. a tang or two would be ok if its over 100 US gallons for the tangs u want.

150 UK Gallons = 180 US Gallons (819 litres I believe).

Crlkeep has only 3 tangs. a yellow hawaiin tang, a scopas tang, and a red sea sailfin tang( i think thats them) and his only problem is his blenny messin with the red sea. and he has a 125 us gallon tank. you shiould do fine, as long as they are introduced together, and surferdude141 is right. The lfs wants you to come back and buy more stuff. they are after your money, not your nice tank.

tangs OF THE SAME SPECIES should be kept either single or in groups of three or more....yellow tangs in particular....two tangs of same species will usually fight, I've been down that road....the addition of the third will quiet them down mostly. The tangs may be agressive towards clowns.....

Ok, so say I wanted a small group of green/blue chromis in the tank - would I need to add them at the same time - or can they be added 1 at a time and then group as they get added?

hmmmm im not sure............. you can probably add them all at once if you want if they all came out of the same tank at the LFS

you should probably add them all at once, but keep a close eye on your water quality, as adding several fish at once can have a big impact on the bioload of your tank....adding them at once will probably help reduce fighting and agressiveness....chromis are relatively peaceful, and others should be able to be added later, but as we all know, sometimes it's a roll of the dice and hard to predict the outcome....

Well I have got my two g/b reef chromis and they are now seeming quite happy in their new home - Havnt got any other fish and no quarentine tank - so I put them straight in  naughty I know, but I'm getting a new tank soon and they will go into a QT b4 going in there!

If I used the sand and rock from this current tank (along with about 88lbs of new live rock) how long do you rekon I shud wait b4 adding the live stock to it? Will there be a whole new cycle? (I'd use the same filter etc too)...

the cycle will not be noticable. the sand and rock will have already been all settled, and the bacteria are already there. the cycle will not be noticable, if there even is one. the snad may take some time to settle back dow, but other than that, youll be fine.
