I'm Conni, and I'm new New NEW to saltwater aquaria. In fact, since I don't have my tank set up yet, I'm not even a real newbie, but a pre-newbie!

Anyway, I have an 80G well planted freshwater community tank, a 10G cichlid breeding tank (which I'm going to sell to free up some space), a 2.5G with two ADFs, and a couple of betta containers. Now, I have found a steal on a 55G tank, and it's sitting empty in my den. (It came with FW inhabitants that are going to be donated to the LFS today.)

My planted tank is my baby, and I just can't imagine that I can make any freshwater tank look better. So, I thought I'd take a stab at saltwater. The two tanks are also in the same room, so I thought this would add a more diverse look.

I'm planning a FOWLR for now, but I don't even have sand or rock or anything yet. I'm reading Saltwater Aquariums for Dummies right now, and still feeling a bit overwhelmed. Please expect to see me post many questions in the near future!

Okay, I tend to be long-winded, so I better close this post before it becomes an epic novel. Nice to meet you all!

Conni

I'll give you any answers about planting a tank that I can, but let me tell you: I don't have a lot of experience with a lot of plants. I have tried some that didn't work and some that did. I just work with what is happy in my tank with my light. I'm just coming through a major algae battle, so let me recommend the true secret weapon: Flourish Excel. Of course, try not to leave those lights on too long either! Good luck with your planted tanks and let me know if I can help!

Yeah, I've heard that UV Sterilizers kill algae and all kinds of other nasties, too. You just have to use them sparingly, because they supposedly kill some things that are good for plants. It's better to find out why you have the algae than to just kill it. I must admit that if I had had one at the time that my algae was at its worst, I must certainly would have run that bad boy!
