Hope I'm not breaking any rules with the use of a web address in my post... But liveaquaria.com has a good library of saltwater fish and I often use it to look at the types of fish if I'm not sure what they are. However, when I look at their max size for each fish they seem a little on the big side??

e.g. the scopas tang - now I know they grow big, but (a) what is the chance of it actually growing to 1' in a tank coz surely that means it would probably be the only one you could have... and (b) If I was to buy a 2" yellow tang and put him in a 40 uk gallon tank - would he grow to a certain size or would he grow to the 10" they say and practically hang out the sides of the tank??

Nope, It's Not Breaking A Rule By Posting Web Sites...

All Websites Do Over Exdrate The Tanks Size, The Point You Made About A Yellow Tang Is Not True He Will "Grow To The Size Of The Tank" But Probably Die Before That. I Have A Yellow Tang In My 38 Gallon Tank And Have Had Him For About 6 Months And Hes Been Doing Great But Evetually If I Dont Move Him He Will Die Or Become Sick. I.E Color Loss, Size Deformation....

My Friend Has A Yellow Tang And He Becomes Less Yellow Towards Night Becuase He Adjusts To The Time...

The Reason Fish Grow To The Size Of The Tank Is Becuase There Is An Enzyme Of Some Sort In There Crap... As This Enzyme Builds Up It Stunts There Growth...

If Your Looking To Get A Fish You Can Check Here About Them

The reason fish grow to the size of a tank...is ridiculous. They don't actually stunt because of that reason itself. They stunt because of lack of space, not because of an enzyme in their fecal matter. If that were the case, we'd have millions of mutated fish. I'm not sure if your familiar with a Redtail Catfish, but they grow to enormous sizes, although they are most likely available at your LFS. People cram these things into 50 gallons and they actually deform, because of the lack of space. I saw a fish in a aquarium, that had been stunted...it was horrible to look at, its face was mushed in, like a Pug (the dog). They actually deform, because of lack of space, and or actual lack of water, not anything to do with their feces. Just thought I'd clear that up.

As For The Stunting Growth I Got It Mixed Up Between SW And FW Becuase I Do Also Have A FW Tank And Often Confuse The Two.
