How much room do you have in your stand because if you have more room you could go bigger. Basic things you will need is an overflow and a return pump.

Here are some examples of an overflow. There are many other types but here are 3 examples.

one of the easiest and cheepest sumps to make is by using one of those big rubbermaid storage containers. I dont have any pics of those maybe some one else has one on here.

ok thanks so basicly you stick it on the side of your tank and water flows in and down to your sump are these and return pumps very expensive

" ...i asked my LFS for help but they had no idea either ..."

What are you currently using for a filtration device and may I ask what is the driver or reason why you are considering a sump?

"people tell me i really should have a sump..." <sigh>

Think about where you'd like your system to be and do the necessary research. Everyone's needs and wants are different from one another. What works for them may, or may not work for you. Setting up a fuge may sound easy or look easy but what are the goals you're expecting from having one? Can you accomplish those goals using a different method?

You have the basic necessities right now to keep your system thriving. My little reef tank is LR, LS and a skimmer. that's it, no HO, no sump, nada. My 125 has a sump, but my other tanks, are pretty paired down. Ocassionally I'll add a cannister or two to polish the water (after stirring the bottom or trying to clear the clod storm after I moved some rocks) but that's about it.
