I placed my order for the free 5 gallon sample. It does sound good, just like to test it though.

If it is a coupon, it gives me a reason to go to another LFS store to redeem it. I love shopping for my reef......

Yeah...now that source is going to dry up...should have kept that one to yourself :) Because I ordered 10 times, meaning I'll get that little 5 gallon package of salt, its not a 5 gallon bucket either...its enough mix to make 5 gallons of water...I thought you meant a 5 gallon bucket full...so basically I have to mix up 10 bags of salt, per 50 gallons of water :) muhah...anyway...I used different names and addresses... :) I want to test it out on a new tank..so I figured I'd give it a whack, I imagine, its not worth the hassle of going 45min away, because that's the nearest dealer.

Now Jared, is that fair with the limited supplies they have? Let's hope they don't call the FBI to investigate. I can see the headlines now.....

"Today local police and FBI uncover a covert operation to swindle a well known Corporation out of salt....."

I need a vacation....

Personally I think this is a very bad idea. I am all for saving money, but changing your salt for a few bucks at risk of altering the exact mixture your charges are used to seems, well not worth the risk to me. Perhaps if I hear this stuff is good from others, I will considerd getting my free sample and mixing it into a 200gal bucket of IO or something, but to trust a new product and also to change the trace balance your stock is used to is a foolish desicion IMO.

This free salt calls for one of these: :hmm2:

Ah yes, you may well be right Erik. But in the interest of testing this salt for it's "Revolutionary" aproach to synthetic sea salts, a 5 gallon mix will work just fine. Don't have to use it for water changes, but what can 5 gallons really hurt in 125+ gallons of water. If it is even remotely close to NSW levels of most elements, then I don't see a problem.

Our charges have had to deal with the ever changing environments that we call mini-reefs anyways, so a small deviation due to salt mixes will likely have a less harmfull affect on them than 1 accidental overfeeding, or old lights, or .................

Erik, has made a good call here....one I had been thinking of. If you've ever been an Instant Ocean fan, and switched to a different, brand of salt....have you ever noticed problems? I've seen MANY articles on other boards, about how people have problems with that, which sitching salt...see I have the best saltwater around, natural seawater :)

natural seawater

Heard many mixed things on this. My local aquarium sell it, very low sailty and when you mix in your new salt is it still natral??

Well, if you read this article concerning IO, you will see why people have had problems switching from IO salt to another or vise versa.
