Hi,

Could you please id this creature? It accepts little junks of food and moves around a little? Could it be a Discosoma neglecta?

I have to agree with with both of your identifications. Since colors and growth forms can vary so much between two different animals of the same species, exact identification with out taxonomic ID is almost impossible.

In truth, for most hobbyists, being reasonably sure of an animals identification is the best we can hope to achieve.

Thanks for the pics though, I really like pictures of others tanks. It is really amazing to see all the cool things that we all end up with.

Why do you guys say neglecta??? I thought neglecta had parts of the tissue sticking out at the edges, elongated lappets on the disc margin.

Just wondering I still consider myself new to coral taxonomy so I would like to know how you came to that descision?

thanks,

I asked the same question from rec.aquaria.marine.reefs newsgroup, and Marc Levenson wrote:
"It looks a little bit like a baby Ricordia (type of mushroom)."

Why are you positive? Please explain to me the factual bases for your judgment.

Thanks,
