which species of algea do you think works best in a refuge?
I think mixed is good, but grape in my exp. will take over...

I would say that you want a mixture. You will want something that grows since this is part of the reason for having a refugium. By the algae growing in the refugium it uses up nutrients that could otherwise be used by unwanted algaes in the main tank.
I have mine set up with a mix of Chaeto (sp?) and mangroves. I am working on setting up a much larger refugium with eel grass and mangroves though. Wanna see how this works out....

I've used a mixture of grape caulerpa and sand feather successfully...got to trim off excess about every other week.

I use chaeto and mini grape.... I run a 6500k 24/7 over my refugium and have to crop every week.

I'll see what I can come up with it's pretty hard to see in my refugium because I don't clean the glass because it's behind my tank and the sides are full of coraline, but I'll clean a side and get some shot in for ya.

Turtle grass is excellent, although you must have a deep sand bed.
